Welcome to Failure To Thrive (MD)

If you’ve ever stared at a chart and thought, this patient is not okay—and the system is absolutely missing it, you’re in the right place.

Failure To Thrive MD is a space for clinicians who care deeply, notice patterns early, and are tired of pretending that broken workflows, gaslighting, and checkbox medicine are “just how it is.” It’s not a manifesto. It’s not a wellness blog. And it’s definitely not here to sell you hustle culture with a stethoscope slapped on top.

It is a place to name what’s actually happening in modern medicine.

“Failure to thrive” is a diagnosis we use when something bigger is wrong—when decline doesn’t fit neatly into a single lab value or consult note. Increasingly, it applies just as much to our systems as it does to our patients.

Here you’ll find:

  • Reflections from real clinical practice

  • Commentary on patient safety, medical gaslighting, and institutional blind spots

  • Dark humor, because sometimes that’s the only way to survive

  • Honest conversations about what good medicine should look like—and why it’s so hard to practice it right now

This site exists because many of us were trained to speak up, advocate, and think critically—then quietly punished for doing exactly that. Because patients deserve better than performative care. And because clinicians deserve a place to tell the truth without polishing it into something palatable.

If something here makes you uncomfortable, good. That usually means it’s real.

Welcome.

Pull up a chair.

Rounds are about to start.
